It's music of a lost Albion, a windswept land of steel skies and old ways, of dark, satanic mills built upon psilocybin drenched earth fertilised by the endlessly copulating ghosts of generations of cunning folk. Through it's hands runs a stream of British outsider music from Coil to Bowie at his most enigmatic and it feels like it's redefining the boundaries of what constitutes a truly British music.

Its a TV and Film OST Only bumper bonanza mix.

Here we are at mix number 30. This time round its a Film and TV Soundtrack selection. Some of the themes/music have been on previous TT Archive Reels. When I first started to put this one together I did not anticipate how long the final mix would be. This version comes in at 1hr 44 mins, which is way shorter than the original mix. I had to drop a lot of music, so might do another at a later date. I have no idea when the next mix will be here. I have managed 30 TT Archive Reels which I never really thought I would get to, so maybe time for a short intermission (or maybe not) so for now sit back and enjoy music from Louis & Babe Baron, Georges Delerue, Schifrin/Holmes, John Carpenter, Yann Tiersen, Neal Hefti, Tangerine Dream, Wil Malone, Denton & Cook, Wendy Carlos, Rita Tushingham & Lyn Redgrave, E Arel & Petit and loads more.

Its a Stop-Motion Happening

Julian House aka The Focus Group twists the kaleidoscope to reveal a fractious mosaic of some 25 vignette-like parts in just over 37 minutes with Stop-Motion Happening, the ‘Groop’’s - as it’s spelt on the cover - most delirious and mid-summery dosage to date.

A nice surprise dropped through the letterbox the other day.....the new album by the Focus Group, Stop-Motion Happening. This is the 5th album of audio cut ups, loops, strange disjointed Psych and electronics by Julian House/Focus Group. Is it any good? I hear you all say.............Yes indeed it is, its a captivating audio mash up that at times does not make for easy listening, which is not a bad thing at all. Whilst at other times some of the loops/cut ups have a very playful feel that will get your feet tapping and have you wondering where they originated from. The Artwork as expected is superb (with quotes from Marshall McLuhan's The Medium is the Massage) and is a perfect companion to the music. Stop-Motion Happening truly wonderful audio experience and a treat for the ears. Stop-Motion Happening is out on July 14th

Alan Sutcliffe EMS SYNTHI AKS IMPROV 1972 - 1973

A superb Limited edition (50 copies) 30 minute white cassette tape in soft plastic box with insert card featuring early computer graphics by Alan Sutcliffe. 
It was then that we were contracted by 20th Century Fox to provide computer graphics for Ridley Scott's ‘Alien’. Alan's key contribution was the terrain model for the landing site for the Nostromo space ship. We had a styrofoam model made and Alan digitised that for the 3D representation on the flight deck computer screens as the spaceship landed. A real complement to Alan's creation was a query we had from some intelligence agency in the US as to whether we'd had access to some of their on going work on terrain models because the screen representation was very similar to theirs (they said, but we heard no more)

Welcome to The mighty Burlington Bunker at Corsham in Wiltshire.

The Burlington Bunker was also known as Site 3, Stockwell, Subterfuge, Turnstile and Hawthorn Central Govenment War Headquarters. Burlington was built in 1956 and finished in 1961. The simple purpose of this place was to house The British Govenment in the event of a Nuclear War. The Bunker could accomodate up to 4,000 Government ministers, Military, Intelligence and Security bods, plus support staff. Definitely not for Joe Public. For us it was time to paint the windows white and lean the doors up against the wall (see Protect and Survive or The 1984 BBC Drama doc Threads).

Burlington was between 60 and 130 feet below ground and was 1km long and 200 metres across. To get round this underground labyrinth there was a fleet of electric buggies. At the time of impending Crisis/Nuclear Attack, 4,000 essential workers would assemble at a Check Point. This Check Point was Warminster and from there a fleet of army vehicles would have to transport the staff to the Burlington site. The problem was that it was believed the Soviets had targeted Burlington so even though it was blast proof, it could not have withstood a direct hit from an ICBM. So the bunker was pretty much obsolete not long after it was built.

The Burlington Bunker is now up for sale. With the size and the scale of the place the chance of it ever being open to the public is very slim which is a great shame. Sadly with the way things are, some of these underground giants might be used again.

The Quiet Man

Many many years ago the In The City Fanzine produced a book called Ultravox Past Present and Future. Naturally being a fan of Ultravox/John Foxx I ordered a copy. I still have that copy and had a good old read of it recently. Apart from the usual (Band forms as Tiger Lilly, 1st album 2nd album, Steve Shears goes, Robin Simon replaces etc etc) it had the John Foxx short story The Quiet Man. So for your reading pleasure here is John Foxx's The Quiet Man.

The Restless Field is a study of the land as a place of conflict and protest as well as beauty and escape; an exploration and acknowledgment of the history and possibility of protest, resistance and struggle in the landscape/rural areas, in contrast with sometimes more often referred to urban events.
It takes inspiration from flashpoints in history while also interweaving personal and societal myth, memory, the lost and hidden tales of the land.

Test Transmission Archive Reel 29

Starting off this time we have a bit of Nuts in May, followed by all sorts of audio goodness like Renaldo and the Loaf, Simon Heartfield, The Comit is Coming, Basil Kirchin, Carl Orff, Gong, Belbury Poly & Moonwiring Club, Shirley Collins, Tongues of Fire, Deep Purple, Dudley Morre Trio and plenty more. Have been working on ideas for Test Transmission Archive Reel 30 recently. To celebrate reaching 30 this will be a TV Themes and OST only Test Transmission. So until then (Summer) sit back and enjoy a bit of Keith and Candice Marie.
