Broken Folk 10inch EP available now on Bandcamp
I am pleased to say that there is now a limited number of copies of the Seatman & Powell (featuring Belbury Poly) Broken Folk 10inch EP, available from Bandcamp. Previously only available from Ghostbox Records, Belbury Music Shop. A five track EP of collaborations with folk singer Douglas E. Powell /Bellprover selected from my albums, A Rest Before the Walk and all hold hands and off we go. It opens with a remix of
the title track Broken Folk by Ghost Box veterans, Belbury Poly.
Melancholic and subtly psychedelic, these songs are redolent of
supernatural short stories and winter afternoons out on English
landscapes. In these dark rustic reveries, Seatman builds a dense
collage of electronics, fragmented melody and found sound, around which
Powell weaves his dreamlike lyrics. The 10” is pressed on translucent green vinyl with sleeve art by Belbury
Poly's Jim Jupp. It’s released on Seatman’s own label KS Audio and is
produced in association with Belbury Music.

The Sonik Youth Club, Braunton, Devon
Way back in Feb 2020 myself and Jim Jupp were invited to play a DJ set at The Sonik Youth Club in Braunton North Devon. Unfortunatly we all went into lockdown, and with no chance of us playing this set live we were asked by Doug to do a mix for The Sonik Youth Club on Mixcloud. Hopefully when all this is over a swift journey to Braunton might just happen...but until then put your feet up and enjoy all the The Sonik Youth Club mixes here
And now some words from and about The Sonik Youth Club.
The Sonik Youth Clubis a collection of DJ's and music enthusiasts coming together to play live DJ sets in amazing spaces. No genres, only interesting and diverse music performed by and for free thinking people. The first Sonik Youth Club was a live event at Saunton Road Studios, Braunton, Devon, 29th Feb 2020 and featured 3 live DJ sets from Doug Powell, Buko and Si Gracia. Saunton Road Studios is a great little venue, it’s not only a recording studio but it doubles up as a live venue and bar with great local beer, ideal for a small gathering of 50 or so. Perfect for the Sonik Youth Club. I’ve always wanted to put on a night were anyone could come and play anything they wanted to, not necessarily DJ’s and not a typical dance night and not even in a club setting, just a cool place where folks could listen to music that they are not usually exposed to. The first night was a great success with the promise of something a bit different from the usual night out at local pub. Buko opened the evening with a set of Psych, 60’s garage and Experimental Electronica. Doug Powell’s set was a wide-ranging mix of 60’s French Pop, Psych, Folk and Electronica. Si Gracia ending the evening with his trademark set of Jazz, Funk and House. Soon after we all went into lockdown, so Doug had to move the Sonik Youth Club online to Mixcloud. It was a shame not to able to carry on with the live events. Doug told us, but this opened up an opportunity for us to be heard worldwide and to get submissions for DJ sets and mixtapes from across the globe. We are currently up to 9 mixes and have loads more waiting in the wings to be posted.

Phantasmagorical Progtronica
Each track is a mechanical box, the album a set of Russian dolls peculiarly connected but of
the same family. It makes for a sometimes uncomfortably intriguing experience.
That unease you feel? It is just around the corner.

So, on Last One In for example, what could be a chirpy and exciting theme tune to a 1970s kid’s adventure series is modulated into a minor key by a sinister synth bass line and menaced by a stomping bother boy rhythm. In the opening track On to the Pier & Down to the Sea, the amusement arcade din is submerged in a watery digital swirl during. Likewise, on Tippy Toe Tippy Toe the tiddly-om-pom-pom of the pier is heard from the point of view some approaching aquatic creature or perhaps by a drowning man. This track heralds the closing section of the album which shifts focus from the seafront to its rustic precursor, the mayday fair. Something weird comes to the village in Waiting by the Window. Sounding as if late period Radiophonic Workshop (when they got hold of expensive synths) had popped back 15 years to work with their boffinish tape wielding forbears. It summons an atmosphere like a Nigel Kneale drama or one of those folk-horror inspired episodes of Dr.Who.
Finally, the album’s title track seems to offer a chance of escape to a more rustic idyll
with melancholy mellotron flute and mumbled nursery rhymes. But as the album
closes it feels like a relentlessly inescapable holiday-special steam train drags us back
On to the Pier & Down to the Sea. Jim Jupp, Ghost Box Records (extract Sleeve Notes)

A Super Summer CD EP Clear Out
Track five on the EP is a remix of the 2015 album track Broken Folk, the original version of Broken Folk can be heard on the album A Rest Before the Walk.
Broken Folk Spiricom Shakedown Remix is by Revbjelde who appear courtesy of Buried Treasure Records. Disjointed Oddities has been played by 6 Musics Stuart Maconie (Freak Zone) and Gideon Coe
Ian Holloway (Wyrd Britain July 2018)
A Child, the Hare and the Old Wooden Chair combines the cinematic retro-futurism of bands like Pram and Broadcast with samples and experimental sound-sculpturing. DIY psych-folk with haunted electronica, effectively juxtaposing woozy, spooky, surreal and spacey. A great set of tracks from this inventive experimental electronic artist.
Bliss aquamarine (July 2018)
The strange shuffling steam train beat, electronic whistles, creaks and a guide to etiquette at a party playing within, underline the complexities and delights of this exciting EP. The haunting beats and Cutleresque reminiscing are both haunting and strangely hilarious. Enjoy the heady hard stamping disco beats. Jump and nod your head in a frenzy of nostalgic enjoyment for a forgotten future as the beat, sweeping synth and electro drum whoops sweep you along. musicforzombies (May 2018)

Out Now. Broken Folk 10 inch EP and Digi Release
After over a year of planning, and long walks on the Southdowns, the Seatman And Powell (Featuring Belbury Poly) 10 inch has arrived. The original plan for this release was conceived 18 months ago late one night in North Devon. Myself and Doug, decided to release a 7 inch single containing two vocal tracks. These tracks were from the albums all hold hands and off we go and A Rest Before the Walk. Doug and I would re-master and re-work these 2 tracks and release them as a very limited run. Then the idea moved on a bit to a 7 inch ep. Months went by and I discussed this project with Jim Jupp at Ghost Box. Way back in early 2018 myself Jim, Doug and our friend Russel went for a very long walk along the South Downs. It was when sitting in a very snug pub in Lewes that Jim said he would be interested in releasing the single but taking it up to a 10inch on colour vinyl and full colour artwork. Not to be released on Ghostbox but released through his own Belbury Music. I said yes to this and months down the line here is the final product.
The EP has 5 tracks with Broken Folk remixed by Belbury Poly.
The 4 other tracks have been re-worked by myself and Doug.
All tracks re-mastered by Jim Jupp, and all artwork by Jim Jupp at Belbury Music.
Broken Folk Excerpts Soudcloud
An EP of collaborations with folk singer Douglas E. Powell selected from Keith Seatman’s last two albums. It opens with a remix of the title track Broken Folk by stalwarts of British pastoral electronica Belbury Poly.
Melancholic and subtly psychedelic, these songs are redolent of supernatural short stories and winter afternoons out on English landscapes. They are dark rustic reveries, occupying the overlapping territory between haunted electronica and wyrd folk.
Seatman builds a dense collage of electronics, fragmented melody and found sound, around which Powell weaves his dreamlike lyrics.
The tracks have been remastered for the EP by Belbury Poly’s Jim Jupp and the 10” is pressed on translucent green vinyl with sleeve art by Jim Jupp. It’s released on Seatman’s own label
KS Audio in conjunction with Jupp’s Belbury Music.
The Broken Folk vinyl ep can be purchased from the
Belbury Music Shop
The Digital version is available from Bandcamp.
